70% of the human body consists of water, which is the only essential fluid for our survival. The minimum amount of daily consumption per person is 1.5 litre. Water is considered an elixir of life and our best ally against various health problems. It has been proved that in order to preserve our beauty and young looks, water is our helpmate. Regular water-drinking helps our skin hydrate, while keeping it soft and smooth, without wrinkles. This is done through the restoration of the moisture in the skin tissues. The high temperatures during summer months, as well as physical activities (physical work or exercise) increase body temperature. Water contributes to the regulation of the temperature through heat transmission from the core and vaporization through skin. If the vaporized water is not replaced, the body may suffer from dehydration. Children run a higher risk to suffer from dehydration because they produce higher quantities of heat and sweat less. Overweight and obese people are in the same category due to the "fat insulation" of their bodies, as well as people who suffer from heart diseases. In order to avoid a possible dehydration one should drink water extensively. Pay attention though: thirst is a late indicator of dehydration. It is better to consume water before you feel thirsty; otherwise your cells will have already suffered from lack of fluids. |
